Best athletic footwear for lifting weights:
Our choice: Adidas Powerlift 2.0s
The adidas PowerLift 2.0s are a type of weight lifting shoe. If you want more info on what weight lifting shoes are, read our article; what are weight lifting shoes.
Essentially, these shoes provide immense support for anyone doing exercises like squats or deadlifts. They sport a 15mm heel which gives you a greater squat depth and better form.
They are also incredibly light, thanks to a weight distribution plate in the sole (unique to adidas), which allows it to be made of a lighter material. The strap keeps you positioned solidly, there’s no give in the sole and the sides are incredibly durable giving you really decent ankle support. They are also the best value for money in the market.

Our Choice: New Balance M990v3
This piece of athletic footwear is truly a leader in the running shoe industry.
It’s known for it’s immediate comfort, this shoe has hundreds of reviews like this one, stating that there is zero ‘breaking in’ time and you can start running in these from the get go.
The shoes are very well cushioned and use a dual density collar for support and comfort. They’re stylish, and are incredibly reflective in the dark, making them ideal for the modern runner.
However, it’s their durability and longevity which makes the New Balance one of the most talk about shoes in 2015.
Best Athletic footwear for cross-fit:
Our choice: Inov-8 Fastlift 335
These shoes are the perfect shoe for cross-fit. Nothing else even comes close in terms of overall performance. These shoes are made with a special thermoplastic material, that is incredibly strong but also incredibly light. The shoe weights in at just 335 grams (12oz), now that is crazy!
They are also incredibly flexible in the toe box, which most weight lifting shoes are not. This allows you to perform dynamic movements that cross-fit demands. They also boast a 0.65 inch heel that gives you good squat form. You can indeed run in these shoes too.

The reebok competes do just that. They have a small increase in heel height for cross-fit and gym work. They have exception grip (just try to fall over in these!) and are stylish enough to wear around town.
These shoes win the title of the most durable and versatile shoes. The stylish design comes with a mesh around the entire shoe, made from Kevlar “CombatCage” overlay for max durability. These are also used by rock climbers for their durability.
